WEDDING: We Expect Dowry Deals In Name of Gifts.

BACKGROUND:

Being a part of a culture where dowry is the most expected and demanded thing, I have bear witnessed the presence of this poison in our society. I was almost 14 years old when I attended a wedding arranged in inner Punjab. And as I was from the bride side's I had seen the hustle bustle before marriage in the bride's house caused for the collection of dowry things. Instead of spending quality time with the bride, Her father and mother were busy in buying furniture, buying machines and god knows what not. A dozen of pillows were given to bride too. I wonder why? Why is it necessary to do dowry talks before settling a marriage? Isn't a grownup girl who has been raised up by her parents with love, is enough? I think so, it isn't enough. It is more than enough. More than a family could ever deserve. A beautiful, talented, beloved daughter of her parents.

Dowry has become competition:

I wouldn't have been here and opposing dowry if families haven't seen it as a race, as a competition to win. Living in this society i have seen how in laws compete their daughter-in-law dowry's things with other daughter-in-law of their families. And expect her to bring big fat dowry in the name of gifts and calling it a daughter's right. Isn't it a most ignorant thing?

Dowry has basically become marriage settlement:

It is still prevalent in parts of South Asia, Middle East, parts of America and in some communities in Britain (indy100 article). Most of the people think that demanding dowry is their moral right. They don't care what is bridal's background, most of them just want bridal's parents to fill their home. In my opinion, whether a bride is from poor background or a rich family, to demand anything from anyone is wrong in the name of marriage.

Dowry related deaths:

According to new research published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), around 87,000 women were killed around the world last year and some 50,000 - or 58 per cent - were killed at the hands of intimate partners or family members. I am sure after reading this report by UN you would have goosebumps. This is how much of curse dowry is for societies.

STOP DOWRY:

In conclusion, giving gifts to your daughter at the time of her wedding isn't wrong until or unless it is for the sake of your love daughter and not because of peer pressure from in-laws, society or for the sake of any competition.

For the people who demands fat deals at weddings you are more than a evil and those who torches a girl in the name of dowry, you all are evil and surely Karma will hit you someday.

For the girls, you are daughter of this world, don't let anyone low your self respect by demanding dowry, don't settle for less girls.
